The tie was the third straight for ROUNDUP the Panthers and their leagueleading 13th of the season. Florida has played an NHL-high 17 overtimes this season (2-2-13). Bobby Holik and Bill Guerin scored for New Jersey, which extended its unbeaten overall streak to six games (2-0-4). The Devils had two great chances to win, the best coming from rookie Steve Sullivan with 16.8 seconds left in overtime.

Holik sent him in alone from the right side but John Vanbiesbrouck made a great glove stop for his 33rd and final save. Flames 5, Capitals 2 Robert Reichel scored his first goal in 13 games and Jarome Iginla had three assists as host Calgary beat Washington. Reichel opened the scoring 7:57 the game when his slap shot deflected off the stick of Washington defenseman Joe Reekie and past goaltender Jim Carey. Also scoring for Calgary were German Titov, Ed Ward, Dave Gagner and Todd Hlushko.

CLEVELAND 11 I Bringing WEEKEND GUND: ARENA GUNS World-Class Events to Cleveland GUND ARENA AND THE CAVS PROUD TO HOST THE 1997 NBA ALL- STAR WEEKEND Finn, Tyma help Crunch A thump Silverbacks, 23-9 3 By DENNIS MANOLOFF PLAIN DEALER REPORTER The Crunch is in good shape when Hector Marinaro, Zoran Karic and Henry Gutierrez score goals.

It is in great shape when Jim Finn and Tim Tyma join the fun. Finn and Tyma had 2-pointers in the pivotal third quarter as the Crunch ripped the Cincinnati Silverbacks, 23-9, last night in the CSU Convocation Center. Cleveland shook off cobwebs to turn in one of its best games of the season. The Crunch had not played since Jan. 25, when it beat the Columbus Invaders, 30-10.

"We're still not 100 percent, healthwise, but we're getting close," midfielder Tommy Tanner said. "When this team is 100 percent and we play hard, we're going to be difficult to beat. We played very well tonight." In the midst a six-game homestand, the Crunch (19-8) has won nine of 10 and opened a game lead on the Silverbacks in the Central Division of the American Conference. The Silverbacks (15-15) had beaten the Crunch the previous two meetings, both in Cincinnati. The loss was Cincinnati's first in four games.

Cincinnati's frustration bubbled over late in the fourth quarter, when midfielder Franklin McIntosh was ejected for apparently. head-butting Tommy Tanner. Tanner, who continues to dominate the midfield, showed no ill-effects from the shot. In the third quarter, the Crunch fashioned a 10-0 run to turn a tight, physical matchup into an apparent rout. During the spree, Finn scored his second goal of the season, assisted by Marinaro, to make the score, 13-2.

Marinaro had one goal and three assists. Minutes later, Tyma capped it with a rocket, his third goal in 27 games, for a 17-2 lead. Cincinnati refused to fold, outscoring the Crunch, 6-0, early in the fourth quarter to make matters interesting. But goals by Gutierrez and Karic resumed the rout. Gutierrez's two-pointer came courtesy of a bicycle kick.

He later produced a short-handed goal and finished with a hat trick. Karic had four goals and two. assists. The league's secondleading scorer fed off trash talk by Cincinnati forward Bernie Lilavois. Bernie Lilavois? Cincinnati bigname teammates such as player- TONY DEJAK ASSOCIATED PRESS SURER 1 Crunch forward Hector Marinaro, Denzil Antonio for the ball during Cininnati in the CSU Convocation coach George Fernandez and Denzil Antonio know better than to stoke Karic's fire.

Lilavois, apparently, does not. During a scrape in the first half, both players were assessed penalties. They made moves as if there would be While serving time in the box, Lilavois told Karic that without the referees' help, he was nobody. Karic responded, "Who are you?" Tyma, the only player to suit up for all 13 NPSL seasons, gets paid to play defense. He did not forget his primary responsibility, teaming with midfielders Tanner and Andy Schmetzer and defenders John Ball and Nikola Ristic to construct a moat around goalkeeper Otto Orf (11 saves).

For Tyma, however, blocks are a necessary bore. Goals remain a thrill. "Against this team, you can't left, battles the Silverbacks' Cleveland's 23-9 victory overt Center last night. just focus on Hector and Henry and Nikki Now they'll have to worry about me, too." Tyma laughed. "It's the threat," he said.
